Wikkie Hermkens born IN The Netherlands is a Brooklyn-based photographer known for his cinematic, timeless black-and-white photography. Having gained significant experience in front of the camera as a model, Hermkens later found his true voice behind the lens. He studied at the Dutch Photography Academy and trained under two leading female photographers, shaping his distinct, people-first approach.

Hermkens’ casting process goes beyond simply selecting a face—it’s about forming a meaningful connection with the subject to create images that resonate on multiple levels. Diversity and inclusivity are integral to his work, with a strong commitment to representing the LGBTQIA+ community and ensuring visibility for often-overlooked voices.

Growing up with an identical twin brother, with most people often mistaking which brother was which, Hermkens developed a strong sense of individuality early on. His need to define himself fostered a keen awareness of identity—both his own and that of those around him—marking his portraits as invitations: to be seen, to be present, and to be real.

Hermkens’ work has been featured in Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, V Magazine, and W Magazine, with portraits and series that always feel like collaborations between artist and subject. INNER CHILD marks a pivotal chapter in his visual journey—a project that has taken years to develop, with many of the talents in the exhibition being people Hermkens has worked with over the years, reconnecting as they look ahead together.
